ABOUT US
“Behind The Boxes - Art Deco” was
founded by Ray Owen some 18 years ago, and incorporates the talents of Phil
Varma, Alan Norris, and Olivia Urquhart – with sometime visiting from Val
Turner! Located just off the infamous
South Circular Road, we have three large showrooms positively full of items
from 1920’ s-1950.
The name "Behind The Boxes - Art
Deco" came about due to on the day of completion; British Telecom placed
two very large, very shiny telephone boxes in the centre of the window of the
shop! - Marvellous - unfortunately this didn't save on electrical costs!
Despite years of battling with Telecom, the Telephone Boxes remained for many
years! Now the boxes have been removed - but the enigma lives on!
We
have the following items always available: Furniture - both occasional and
functional, Carpets and rugs, Lighting, ceiling, wall, and occasional lamps,
Telephones, Jewellery, Ceramics, Glass, Chrome, Object d'art, kitsch, practical
and amusing items! There is usually a very small witticism about each item -
which you may or may not find funny.

of stock is original, and any reproduction pieces are always identified.

current joke is so tasteless that we have made the devastating decision not to
publish. (No doubt, he will tell you in
person – tact and diplomacy are not his strongest points)
Most of the
humour is complementary although pre-dating most of the stock!
As
a footnote to all you tolerant, and amiable surfers, this is the first time we
have published using HTML, which takes a very long time to learn. However, this
